Does WUG have name servers, or is everyone on static IPs? The reason I ask is that I want to make my websites available on WUG and would like to know the procedure to follow. Also, is there some kind of search engine or directory I can submit them to?

Have any web hosts joined up yet? If I could just move my hosting to them it would simplify matters.

Hey grant, yes we run DNS, we're far from being backwards Smile we have native IPV6 running too along with many of the industry standard routing procedures and protocols BGP, OSPF, OLSR. Anyway along the hosting lines, yes it would be great to get the web hosts on line.

I mean its a win-win, no one needs to pay for the bandwidth from user to host if its over the wug. I for example run the www.wug.za.net on the wug and anyone can access it without the need of an internet connection. As long as it stays for non-commercial purposes there isnt a problem

That's exactly what I'm talking about. So on WUG would the website also be www.wug.za.net or would it have a different name?

Could you please elaborate, why may one not do business on WUG?

OK saw your post here:

So ICASA owns the "ether" or something like that. How about network cables to your neighbour. How commercially legal is that?

Only licensed providers may provide commercial services.
Internet access is seen as a commercial service.

Wug does not provide internet access.
If it did, it would be illegal.

The Wug would never become a commercial entity. Thats not the goal of the Wug.

By "commercial entity" do you mean using the free network for commerce or paying for the network?

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider we do not provide internet on the wug, its a private LAN without wires basically for use for gaming, research and development, information sharing, chat etc

So you wouldn't have a problem if I decided to come build a house in your back yard. And then flatten your house because it spoils my view?

The Wug is for people to experiment and learn. It is by no means reliable.
G-d help you if you phone me and complain that your internet connection is down because I've turned my radio off.

What are you talking about? I suggested none of these things. Who's going to knock your house down or phone you up to complain over a free service?

as soon as you provide internet people will expect it to always work, and members or highsite managers would be held responsible if it doesnt work. its something we have never and will never get involved with
