[edit] Whats different from the old site?
- The New site is largely AJAX based, now instead of browsing through a huge dropdown list, you can now type the location or part of the location name in the textbox provided. Remember to click the name in the list and then the submit button. The page will not submit if you have just typed in the name and its the only one in the list. I hope to make this easier in the future
- The number of nodes is increasing every day on the site. In order to avoid large KML files, the KML file has been converted to a compressed KMZ version. The new KML provides more information than the old one such as IP information (If you have access) as well as SSID colours and information.
- There is no longer an Operational/Planning icon on the KMZ. The icon is now determined by assigning a client link to the location. Adding a client link (Step 2.1 onwards) will change the location from planning to operational status
- The major change is that links are now created based on IPs, which means a bit of homework at the beginning assigning the IP ranges to the various SSIDs/APs. Thus to create a link to a highsite on the KML all you need to do is assign a location an IP in the range of the SSID it is connecting to.
[edit] Adding a link on the KML
[edit] Where to start?
In order to have access to any IP management it need to be requested. The may be done in menu list on the left. If you wish to manage other users' IP address settings you need to be made an admin. Please request this from me (xarion at wug dot za dot net).
Initially there is the BIG task to assign the WIFI ranges and the LAN ranges to the necessary locations. Please make sure you assign the WIFI IP range to the SSID and the LAN range to the location, here is an example....
[edit] Step 1.1
If you wish to edit one of your own sites click on My Locations and then select Edit from the menu on the right. If you wish to edit a site that does not belong to you click the Browse locations link in the menu on the left, type in the location name, click it in the list and click the Browse button.
The information that will be brought up is in "view mode" which is what a normal user will be able to view. If you are an admin you will be presented with an edit tab.
[edit] Step 1.2
Click the edit tab. You will be presented with various details to edit for the location.
[edit] Step 1.3
Click the SSIDS tab.
[edit] Step 1.4
The list of SSIDs will contain all the SSIDs from the old Wug.za.net site. Click the edit link next to the SSID. You can now edit the details associated with the SSID on the KML. You will see some extra fields such as the KML colour. This is to help distinguish overlapping coverage areas on the KML. Should you wish not to apply any colours, the default colours will be used for 2.4Ghz and 5ghz.
Put in the network address associated to that SSID and click the 'update SSID' button.
Now that the SSID is updated we now need to assign an IP to a user connecting to that SSID.
[edit] Creating a link from a client location
[edit] Step 2.1
Follow Step1 & Step2 for the location you wish to add the link to.
[edit] Step 2.2
Click the Client links tab
[edit] Step 2.3
Type in the IP associated to the client. The site will automatically determine what SSID that Ip belongs to and list it next to the Ip address. If it does not display it means that the SSID IP information is incorrect. Check out Step 1.1 onwards...
You will see the link created from the old wug.za.net assignment which will give you a hint as to what IP addresses you need to add to the client.
To view the newly made links click the download KMZ link from the menu list on the left.
Select your wug from the 'BETA TEST KMZ - Interactive node click' table and click the "beta test KMZ" button
